Itinerary

Day One - Alps + Lake Garda

Following an early morning departure, we head south along the Rhine, through the snowcapped Swiss Alps, reaching Lake Garda by mid-afternoon, where we visit the town of Pesciera.  Here you can take in the views from of the lakeside promenade from one of the cafés or local restaurants. For an early dinner, perhaps enjoy a delicious, real Italian Pizza, made in a wood-fired oven. Later in the afternoon, we depart for a short drive to Venice where we check-in to our hotel and spend the night.

Day 2 - Venice

After breakfast at our hotel and check-out, we cross the Venetian Lagoon by ferry, to St. Mark’s Square, the historical center of Venice. The guided sightseeing on foot provides an overview of this magnificent city and takes you to St. Marc's Basilica, Doge’s Palace, the Bridge of Sighs as well as a visit to a local glass-blowing workshop.  You will then have free time where you can explore on your own, and perhaps take a gondola ride along the Grand Canal or find a cozy spot for a hot coffee or bite to eat.  We depart Venice to travel further south, past the olive groves, Chianti vineyards and into Rome where we travel directly to our hotel for check-in.

Day 3 - Rome + Vatican

Today we will explore the Eternal City with a grand sightseeing tour that takes you to some of Rome’s famous sites. We begin with the Vatican, where you can view Michelangelo's amazing copula at St Peter's Basilica, followed by stops at the Circus Maximus, the monumental Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Capitoline Hill and the Pantheon. At Trevi Fountain, throw a coin into the water to make a wish while you enjoy the festive ambiance of Piazza Navona.  From here you are free to pick from the many restaurants in the area or perhaps dine together at our favorite family-style Roman trattoria and enjoy some great italian food.

Day 4 - Pompeii + Sorrento

Following breakfast at the hotel, we're off for a full-day excursion to the Bay of Naples and Pompeii, where we first visit Pompeii, which was buried by erupting Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD. We will tour the excavations with an expert local guide and learn all about this historic place.  Next, we take a short drive along the Peninsula Sorrentina, which is perhaps one of the most scenic roadways in Italy.  This will take us to Sorrento, a famed resort on the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. There will be free time for you to explore, shop around the quaint historical center and have a quick lunch.  Before we leave Sorrento, join us for a visit to a local Limoncello producer to sample some delicious treats and perhaps purchase a few to take with you.  For our return trip, you can travel by bus or choose to join us on a cruise, via jet boat, along the scenic coast to Naples where we will see the Anjou Castle at the Port of Naples before heading back to Rome and our hotel.

Day 5 - Florence & Thanksgiving Celebration

After breakfast and hotel check out, we head north into Tuscany for a late morning arrival in Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance and the city of Art. Our sightseeing begins with the impressive Cathedral, Piazza Signoria and Santa Croce church which houses the tomb of Michelangelo.  The afternoon offers free time for you to explore on your own, shop for Italian fashion, leather, gold jewelry, Tuscan specialties and enjoy a bite to eat before we journey to back to our hotel before and freshen up for an amazing Thanksgiving Celebration.  Tonight we will enjoy a spectacular evening of Thanksgiving festivities at the Villa Machiavelli, which boasts over 500 years of rich history, including being the residence of the infamous Niccolo Machiavelli.  We will tour the Villa, House Museum and Cellars, which have been beautifully restored to present a warm Tuscan atmosphere with rustic charm, refined cuisine and fine wine.  This evening we will discover the secrets of the Borgo with a Thanksgiving Feast of Tuscan delights, live musical entertainment and a never-ending flow of wine!

The romance of Italy, the people, the landscapes, that have inspired artists for centuries are yours to discover on this amazing journey. Join in and explore Italy’s enchanting cultural legacy, from timeless architecture to culinary pleasures and the seductive beauty of its countryside.

Itinerary

Day 1: Swiss Alps & Lake District

Following an early morning departure, we head south along the Rhine, then across the scenic Swiss Alps, reaching the turquoise colored Lake Garda by late-afternoon. Here, we explore the coastal town of Pesciera, with its lake side promenade, gelato places, cafés and shops. For dinner, perhaps enjoy a delicious, real Italian Pizza, made in a wood-fired oven. Later in the evening, we depart the Lake Region for a short drive to Venice where we check-in to our hotel and spend the night.

Day 2: Venice

After breakfast at our hotel and check-out, we cruise across the Venetian Lagoon, via private boat, to St. Mark’s Square in the heart of Venice. The palatial residences seem to float on the water and gondolas bob beneath the bridges. We will sightsee on foot, followed by free time where you can explore on your own, and perhaps take a gondola ride along the Grand Canal. Today, a lunch of Venetian specialties is included, such as Spaghetti with clams,  mixed fried fish and salad, finished with desert. Following lunch, around mid-afternoon, we depart Venice and begin our scenic drive to Tuscany, where we will check-in to our hotel.

Day 3: Tuscany & Sienna

After breakfast at our hotel, we will travel through the picturesque Tuscan countryside, the winding roads, rolling hills, along vineyards, olive groves and past medieval fortresses. Upon arrival in Siena, we will walk through the ancient, narrow streets lined with rustic, medieval brick buildings.  We will visit the amazing 13th century cathedral, then, on to the Piazza del Campo, site of the biannual Pallio, Siena’s popular medieval style horse race. After the sightseeing there will be free time to explore and to shop for Siena’s delicious specialties, such as cantuccinis, biscottis, peccorino cheeses and truffeled salami. In the early afternoon, we depart Siena and travel back through the Chianti wine region. A wine and olive oil tasting at the La Tancia winery will be both, a fun and an educative experience. Before we depart, there will be opportunities to purchase some wines and oil to take back home. After some time to relax at our hotel, join in our Special 4-course, Tuscan Gala Dinner with live music and wine. Our feast begins first a buffet with a large variety of appetizers (antipasti), then ravioli with truffles, followed by prime rib as main course and later, a choice of deserts.

Day 4: Florence

Discover Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance and the city of Art. See the magnificent cathedral and sculpture studded Signoria Square. After our guided walking tour, there will be free time to explore, shop for souvenirs or enjoy a bite to eat. If time permits, you may want to visit the Accademia Museum to see Michelangelo’s statue of David. In the early afternoon we must depart this magnificent city and begin our trip home with an estimated midnight arrival at Ramstein.

Strasbourg & Alsace

Medieval Magic in France!

Visit Europe’s charming capital, Strasbourg! The half-timbered houses and the imposing 13th century gothic cathedral, as well as the numerous canals throughout the city create an indescribable flair making Strasbourg a most memorable day trip.

Itinerary

Our day begins with a scenic drive through the Vosques mountains and Alsace region of France into the town of Bitche.  Here we make a short stop that will delight military enthusiasts, to view the 800-year-old Citadel, a massive hilltop fortress once regarded as one of Europe’s most powerful military strongholds.

Next we journey on to Strasbourg where our time here begins with a sightseeing tour of the city’s highlights including the “Petit France district” with its half timbered houses, cobbled streets and numerous canals, Place Gutenberg and the 800 year old gothic cathedral.  Having worked up an appetite exploring Strasbourg’s favorite sites, we will make our way to local brasserie to enjoy a delicious Alsatian lunch of Tarte Flambé and salad.  After lunch there will be free time for you to explore the city on your own, and take in the many attractions such as the "Rue des Orfèvres" for gourmet patisseries, wine boutiques and deli stores.

Our final destination is the town of Soufflenheim, celebrated for the pottery that has been created here since the bronze age. Unlike other popular mass-produced pottery found in Europe, the colorful Soufflenheim pottery is still crafted in traditional small batches by only a handful of artisans.  Here you will the opportunity to visit some of the artistic and traditional Alsace pottery workshops to shop for souvenirs and treasures of your own.  Having enjoyed a full day immersed in the best sites, food, wine and crafts of Alsace it is time to relax during the return ride home.
